Music

Music forms an integral part of the St. John Neumann Parish. Under the leadership of the clergy, the St. John Neumann Music Department exercises an important ministry that reaches out to the cantors, the SJN choirs and instrumentalists, as well as to the members of the congregation and the community.

The Music Department of the Church of St. John Neumann serves to provide liturgical and sacred music for the Sunday liturgies and other Parish celebrations. Opportunities to participate in the St. John Neumann music ministry include:

Cantors

NEWS AND RECENT EVENTS

New Hymnals
The St. John Neumann Music Department would like to thank the Parish for providing wonderful new hymnals for our community. Gather Comprehensive, 2nd edition hymnal for Roman Catholic rites and liturgy is the most up-to-date hymnal with a large selection of both traditional and modern hymnody with a dozen of Mass settings. We hope that many inspiring hymns, psalms, songs and prayers, both old and new, meditative and majestic, will enable us all to use our voices to give thanks to God. As St. Augustine says, "one who sings prays twice."

St. John Neumann Pipe Organ Project
The St. John Neumann Parish has accepted a donation, facilitated by a parishioner, of a Reuter pipe organ which will be moved to our church from the Old Concordia University campus in Austin. Because of the generous support of the Parish with the refurbishment and relocation of the pipe organ, the SJN Music Department looks forward to having an instrument that will both inspire the congregation in song and praise and significantly augment the quality of our music program. The organ will be installed in the present worship space in late September.

The blessing of our newly acquired pipe organ and the dedicatory organ recital by Zvonimir Nagy, Director of Music and Organist, will be scheduled shortly after the organ installation in early October
